After you have discerned through prayer and reflection that you are attracted to religious life, what do you do next? Here's a little roadmap or starter kit to help you along. Many of these steps you may have already taken.
1. Continue to pray and reflect!
2. Contact several religious communities, especially any that you know and admire. Usually you write or e-mail the Vocation Director. Request:
- literature about the community's spirit and ideals
- information on the community's ministries (areas of service/work)
- age and other requirements for entrance
- responses to questions that you have
If you can't narrow down the communities which you'll pursue further, start with those that are closer to where you live. To contact us, click on School Sisters of St. Francis of Christ the King contact us page.
3. After some communication with a religious community, respond to invitations, or ask, to meet with the vocation director and/or to come for a visit.
4. As you receive information or talk to community representatives, and especially as you visit religious communities, pay attention not only to facts that are in line with your interests, but also to your emotional responses. Many young women say that they knew which community was right for them because they felt at home or felt a sense of peace when they were with those Sisters. This may or may not happen with you, but it is important to listen to any emotional responses that do come.
5. When you and the vocation director believe you're ready, take the next step in their formation program! For the Sisters of St. Francis of Christ the King, see Formation Stages.
