Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to become a School Sister of St. Francis of Christ the King?
Beginning from the time of first seeking information about our way of life, it would usually take about ten years until one professes final vows. There are six Formation Stages.

What is the age limit for entrance into this community?
High school students and women younger than 33 years of age may be in the contact program. For entrance into our community, we seek young women between the ages of 21 and 35.

What does a Sister do all day?
We pray Morning Prayer together, followed by Mass. On weekdays we have breakfast and then move on to our various ministries (as teachers, school or religious education administrators, staff members or leaders in care of senior citizens, and other works, as well as services within our community).

We come home at various times and meet again at 5:30 p.m. for Evening Prayer and supper and help with clean-up.  In the evening we usually get together to talk, play games, watch TV or a video, or go for a walk.

In between these more scheduled times we set time aside each day to pray privately. We also do the tasks needed to be prepared for our ministries or do some other volunteer work. Especially on weekends, the Sisters might engage in hobbies or get together with family or friends.

All the Sisters' Journeys are different, as we are!

Do I need to be a Catholic to become a Sister?
Yes, it is necessary to be a practicing Catholic, baptized and confirmed in this faith. The Qualities of Franciscan Women and The Vowed Life that we promise are rooted in Catholicism.

Do I need a college education?
A person who wishes to enter needs to have a high school education, and two or more years of college or two or more years of working experience.

What can I do now to know if I have a call to vowed life as a Sister?
There are some qualities and experiences that indicate a readiness for embracing religious life. Taking a Vocation Self-Test will help confirm for you if you're “on the right track.” Then you might want to see what you can do now by using our Religious Vocation Starter Kit.
